Fort Myer South Post - Wave Quarters
Fort Belvoir
wave quarters - south post
This postcard is dated 1945, showing the "WAVE Quarters" in a view which appears to be looking southwest- the structures in the skyline to the left would seem to be on lower Columbia Pike. The person writing the card said on the back 'here is a view of Quarters F...', but later on, this barrack and several others which were west of Higgins Circle all were named after states- California Hall, Nebraska Hall, etc. Judging from an old map, this one seems to be either Kansas Hall or Louisiana Hall. After the WAVES (women in Navy) moved out, these units were used for family residences for Headquarters Company. Fort Myer Historian, Kim Holien, mentions that he gets many calls each year stating that husbands who lived in these barracks are now buried there in the new section of Arlington Cemetery.
