Fort Myer South Post - 1967 March on the Pentagon
Fort Belvoir
1967 march
This photo was taken from the roof of The Pentagon during the October 1967 'March on the Pentagon'. The hippies are all out of view, but Washington Boulevard is in the foreground (and the South Post pool is clearly shown near the road) and the post gym is in the middle of the shot. The original section of Arlington Cemetery and the Lee Mansion are seen in the background. At the middle right you can see one of the smokestacks shown in the WAVE Quarters postcard, and the road leading to the tunnel under the boulevard can be seen above the radar gadget in the lower left. During the 80s and 90s, this whole area of South Post was graded for the cemetery, and much of it has already been filled with gravestones.
